Music Category Updates and Changes

posted on 16/12/2013

We're always updating our music collections and categories to make sure it's quick and easy for you to find the right music. Sometimes that means creating additional, more specific categories to separate music and sometimes we decide to phase out extraneous collections, remove dated music and streamline content so you can preview it quicker and easier.

Recently we merged our Dance Moves and Extreme Workout collections into one, bigger, better category: Fitness and Workout which represents exactly what is says on the tin... whether it's dance based or workout based.

Today we've implemented a similar category shift, by merging our extreme rock and metal music into one hot new action music collection: Extreme Rock/Metal. All heavy guitar based, high energy action music. Check it out here.

If you have any feedback, concerns or queries about where to find music, or you've lost your place, just give us a shout.

New Moods and Emotions Royalty Free Music

posted on 09/10/2013

We've completely overhauled our Moods and Emotions music category to refine, update and include a selection of top keywords editors and producers use to find the right music for their project.

Our music library is packed with collections of music we've categorised based on themes and styles. However, we know that people find it easier to search for music based on a particular keyword, whether it's rock, indie, dance or chilled, they may just want something that is Inspiring, despite it's style, theme or genre.

So we created our Moods and Emotions collection featuring a distinct collection of mood specific keywords to pull together music that best fits that mood, no matter which category the track resides in. Try any of the Mood keyword categories below and see what you think:

We will continue to update this list and add new Mood keywords based on client feedback. Want to suggest a Mood? Get in touch and let us know.

New Music Category Launched - Indie Rock

posted on 25/04/2013

We've created a brand new collection of Indie inspired royalty free rock music bursting with guitar filled energy and excitement. Inspired by the likes of Keane, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Feeder and other popular bands across the Indie music scene. Check out the minimix above or jump right into the category here.

Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom in the 1980s. Indie rock is extremely diverse, with sub-genres that include indie pop, jangle pop, C86, and lo-fi, among others. As grunge and punk revival bands in the US, and then Britpop bands in the UK, broke into the mainstream in the 1990s, it came to be used to identify those acts that retained an outsider and underground perspective. In the 2000s, as a result of changes in the music industry and the growing importance of the Internet, a number of indie rock acts began to enjoy commercial success, leading to questions about its meaningfulness as a term.

In the mid-1980s, the term "indie" began to be used to describe the music produced on post-punk labels. A number of prominent indie rock record labels were founded during the 1980s. During the 1990s, Grunge bands broke into the mainstream, and the term "alternative" lost its original counter-cultural meaning. The term "indie rock" became associated with the bands and genres that remained dedicated to their independent status. By the end of the 1990s indie rock developed a number of sub-genres and related styles. Following indie pop these included lo-fi, noise pop, emo, sadcore, post-rock, space rock and math rock. In the 2000s, changes in the music industry and in music technology enabled a new wave of indie rock bands to achieve mainstream success.

New Music Release - Ethnic Voices July 2013

posted on 10/07/2013

We've added a new selection of music tracks inspired by spiritual cultures from Africa and South America. Our Ethnic Voices collection features a range of powerful, strong and mysterious pieces with a sense of beauty and inspiring emotions.

The music in this collection features a symphonic and world/ethnic feel, with grand string sections and ethereal sounds, combined with epic/tribal percussion. There are also touching, sorrowful and moving pieces with a melancholic/longing feel.

Each track has its own distinct and unique sound. Listen Now.

Ethnic Voices is part of our World Music collection, a musical category encompassing many different styles of music from around the world, including traditional music, quasi-traditional music, and music where more than one cultural tradition intermingle. World music's inclusive nature and elasticity as a musical category pose obstacles to a universal definition.

The term originated in the late 20th century as a marketing category and academic classification for non-Western traditional music. Globalization has facilitated the expansion of world music's audiences and scope. It has grown to include hybrid sub-genres such as world fusion, global fusion, ethnic fusion and worldbeat. Our World Music collection features themes from across the globe including:
