Our new collection of royalty free epic music captures the excitement and drama of Hollywood style soundtracks, but how did epic and cinematic movie scores come to be?

A film score is often an emotional rousing or dramatic and epic piece of music that accompanies particular moments of a movie/film. The score forms part of the film's soundtrack, alongside dialogue and sound effects, and comprises a number of orchestral, instrumental or choral pieces called cues which are timed to begin and end at specific points during the film in order to enhance the dramatic narrative and the emotional impact of the scene in question.

Scores are written by one or more composers, under the guidance of, or in collaboration with, the film's director and/or producer, and are usually performed by an ensemble of musicians – most often comprising an orchestra or band, instrumental soloists, and choir or vocalists – and recorded by a sound engineer.

Film scores encompass an enormous variety of styles of music, depending on the nature of the films they accompany but are commonly known for the epic, dramatic and cinematic feel that isn't heard outside of cinema.

Certain movie score composers have changed the industry and how music is portrayed. Some have created a piece of music or style so good, it becomes the benchmark for 'that sound' for years to come. Here's a list of 10 iconic Hollywood movie composers and the movies they've worked on:
